You may have noticed
that we are not exactly ‘Save the World’ crusaders, and we are certainly not
aspiring to be the female Swampy! But that doesn’t mean that we don’t do Green.
We truly believe that environmental consideration doesn’t necessitate growing
dreadlocks and cutting yourself off from the consumer world. And honestly hugging
trees, munching granola and wearing ugly Birkenstocks really isn’t that much fun
anyway.
There are the obvious
tips like installing energy saving light bulbs and recycling your rubbish, and
we are delighted to see that finally the Jersey Government has made this more
accessible (www.gov.je).
With Earth Day happening only last month we got our thinking caps on to come up with some more ‘Fab’ ways to save the world:
- Carry your own
reusable bag with you at all times. We LOVE Fiz Bags because they fold up to
fit inside any handbag and they come in such fab designs. You don't always know
when you'll be stopping by the Co-Op, so this way you're always prepared.
- Recycle your
old clothes. We would recommend clearing out your wardrobe at least twice a
year. Not only is it good for your near to bursting cupboards but it’s also
surprisingly therapeutic. Donating these clothes to one of the much deserving
charity shops earns extra soul cleansing points too.
- Hold a clothes
swap. Just because you're sick of your old outfits doesn't mean that we are! We've
gotten some great castoffs from chic friends at previous swaps, and they have
been such great fun: trying pieces we’ve been envying for ages and finding
other gems that we wouldn’t have looked twice at in the shop. Watch this space
for a Langtry Members Swap coming soon . . .
- Get smart with
your cleaning habits. Dry cleaning often employs carcinogens and is pretty
costly, to boot. Many items that say "dry clean only" can actually be
washed by hand or on the gentle cycle with some Woolite. Test a small, inside
section of the garment before cleaning the whole thing. If you choose the
washing machine, set it on the lowest temperature.
So tell us ladies . . . how green are your
fashion habits? Do you have any other tips to share? And how committed are you
to reducing your own carbon footprint in other ways? Let us know, and share
your tips . . .
